Slovene-German Translation II

The course is divided into three units:
a) Translation-oriented German Word Formation
b) Translation-oriented German Idiomatics and Stylistics
c) Translation from German into Slovene 2
Translation-oriented German word formation:
- the importance of word formation and its connection to other linguistic subjects (especially lexicology);
- types of morphemes and their meaning;
- arbitrariness and motivation, types of motivation;
- nonce word formation and a contrastive perspective on Slovene;
- word formation procedures and models;
- word formation of noun, adjective, verb, and adverb.
The entire course has a translation orientation, whereby students’ attention is drawn to Slovene equivalents and strategies for adapting German structures to Slovene in the study of word-formational phenomena and principles of word formation.
Translation-oriented German idiomatics and stylistics:
Contrastive (German-Slovene) phraseme classification and typification, use in various text types and genres, phraseme connotation, distinguishing between the following basic terms: "fully, partially, or non-idiomatized fixed word phrase, saying, proverb, slogan, and phraseme modification in terms of structure and meaning" from an interlinguistic and intercultural point of view; learning about the most well-known or most frequently used phrasemes; defining the basic stylistic concepts: learning about and distinguishing between stylistic elements and figures within individual text types, categorization and typification of styles with regard to text types with special culturally conditioned features relevant for translation between German and Slovene language and culture Exposed are the German and Slovene language and cultural characteristics and differences in phraseology and texttypology.
Translation from German into Slovene:
During translation exercises the students expand upon their knowledge from the first year, analyze more complex German and Slovene texts of a general nature, familiarize themselves with the basic methods of translation practice, and translate easier texts from German into Slovene.
