Students get acquainted with the characteristics of pronunciation, basics of writing, basic vocabulary, morphology and basics of syntax (most frequent sentence patterns of modern spoken and written Japanese):
- 1st semester: passive and active mastering of both syllabaries (hiragana and katakana) and approx. 200 Chinese characters, basic vocabulary for everyday use (about 600 words) together with the basics of syntax (coordination, temporary dependent clauses, conditional clauses);
- 2nd semester: further expanding of vocabulary (approx. 1800 words), all elementary sentence patterns and sociolinguistic characteristics of Japanese, basics of polite speech.
