The subject consists of four basic topics:
a. Theory of architectural heritage protection;
b. Methods and methodology of conservation;
c. Protection models;
d. Types of work standards and normative and obligatory protection at local, national and global level.
The course focuses on the introduction and implementation of monument protection aspects concerning the identification and assessment of cultural and natural heritage and the development of interdisciplinary forms of work in all types of environment and at all levels of social life. It also addresses the use of specific and general methods of work, which based on detailed methodological basic premises, ensure quality means of protection of documents and physical heritage and create opportunities for developing model protection for rapid and effective adjustment to social circumstances and thus implementation of the protection activity doctrine. Among other things the course introduces the students to different types of work standards as well as regulatory and normative protection activity the purpose of which is to assess specific and general forms of research and expert work in the field of monument protection. The course will address basic technologies for processing of original materials and the introduction of contemporary techniques and methods that ensure sustainable preservation of heritage.
The field work is organised as one day excursions across Slovenia and abroad with a present programme. The purpose of the field work is to observe and monitor monument protection (and other) renovations of cultural heritage as well as the intervention in nature protection. The field work promotes a positive attitude towards cultural heritage and an expert assessment of renovation activities.
