The subject French Mediaeval Literature gives an insight into the evolution of the mediaeval literary genres and forms, rhetorical figures and literary motives, the fundaments and the historical »fil rouge« of French mediaeval literature. The subject itself is based on two essential sources of mediaeval artistic production, ancient mythology and the Bible as the written source par excellence, together with patristic texts and theological ideas of the time. Of which carefully chosen chapters are included through which students will be familiarized in detail with mediaeval literature, mentality and sensibility, supported particularly by carefully chosen texts of every respective genre. Additionally one could not overestimate modern approach, methodologies and hermeneutic problems of reading and understanding of mediaeval texts. Modern authors will therefore occupy their place as well. Although the subject is mainly about French literary art, arabic, celtic, latin, occitan and other elements are present
